Weekly Learning Review :Week Ending: 8 March 2018

Weekly Learning Review
Class:   FS2                                                     Week Ending: 8.3.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week is the ‘Clothes theme and  the children listened to the story ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’. We discussed that lying is not the solution and that we should try and listen to   comments from the people around us and admit if we do something wrong.
This week, we learned and focused on the voiceless and the voiced /th/sounds. The children loved thinking of new words that have these sounds like (the, this, that, mother, brother father, leather (voiced) and …think, thin, thick, throw, bath, teeth (voiceless).
They loved colouring a mother and a father outline and drawing three coins falling from a thief- phonic work linked to this week’s phonemes. They copied some words that have the /th/ sound and wrote sentences in their copybooks. We also learned the ‘it’ word family. We learned the words (lit, sit, fit, hit, kit, bit). We also consolidated our learning of the key words such as (go, get, of). Please look out for these words as you read stories to your children.

Physical Development
The children had fun singing ‘Hat, Sweater, Trousers and Shoes’ song every day; wearing and zipping their jackets independently and they got to know the different types of clothes. They also enjoyed describing their teachers’ outfit every day. Cutting outfits and clothes pictures out of a magazine using scissors.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Through the story ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, we learned why telling the truth is so important and telling lies can lead to many unpleasant situations. The children watched a tale about telling the truth ( Howard B. Higglebottom and the Monkey on his Back) and  they enjoyed learning a song about telling the truth.

Mathematics
We focused on numbers one less and one more – addition. The children learned to use the number line in order to solve ‘one more’ and ‘ one less’ problems.  The children are learning the vocabulary of addition and they worked collaboratively solving number sentences.

Understanding of the World  Around Us
We talked about the difference between cotton and wool in fabrics; the origin of cotton and wool and their uses. They discovered that cotton absorbed water more than wool and that we tend to wear cotton in the summer and wool in the winter. They learned that we get wool from sheep and cotton from a plant.

Expressive Art and Design
The children enjoyed using  forks to paint as well as creating animals and plants that are used to make fabrics that can then be turned into clothes.
