Weekly Learning Review 1st of March 2018

Weekly Learning Review

Class:   FS2                                                    Week Ending: 29.2.2018
Communication and Language and Literacy
This week, we learned and focused on the /sh/ and /ch/ sounds. The children loved thinking of new words that contain these sounds ( shoes, share, shore, bush, shark…chair, chicken, cheetah, March…etc). We learned the ‘ed’ word family. We learned the words (red, bed, shed,…etc). The children drew pictures of each word in their copybooks. We also consolidated our learning of the key words such as ‘look’, ‘on’, ‘this’. Please look out for these words as you read stories to your children. This week is the ‘Clothes theme so the children listened to  the story ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’. We discussed that lying is never the solution. We must always be honest and tell the truth and admit if we do something wrong.

Physical Development
The children had fun singing ‘Hat, Sweater, Trousers and Shoes’ song every day. They delighted in wearing and zipping their jackets independently. They got to know different type of clothes and they enjoyed describing their teachers’ outfit every day. The children brought their favourite coloured socks to school and put them in a basket. They counted them; sorted them out and matched them to their pairs. We learned how to fold and organise them.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Linked to the story, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, we talked about being honest and using our best manners..
Different stories about stealing, lying and not sharing

Mathematics
We focused on counting forward to 20 and backwards from 20 to 1. We used clothes pegs with  numbers on and the children loved putting them in order forwards and backwards. They also learned about symmetry.

Understanding of the World  Around Us
We talked about royal homes and kingdoms like the pyramids and Buckingham Palace in London. The children enjoyed colouring and decorating their own crowns with glitter.

Expressive Art and Design
This week, the children enjoyed colouring their favourite outfits and dressed them up on a paper doll. We put them on a poster and we will keep adding their clothes crafts through  the upcoming week.
